The Internship Program
The Richard Fine People’s Clinic (RFPC) at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) is now recruiting interns for the 2026-2027 academic year. We are seeking dedicated interns to support our Quality Improvement (QI) and Diabetes programs, providing critical services to nearly 9,000 low-income patients with complex medical conditions.
About the Role
This flexible internship is ideal for students from a variety of academic backgrounds, including Pre-Medical and Health Sciences. Key responsibilities include:
-
Program Support: Contribute to patient outreach initiatives and supporting diabetes groups and clinic activities.
-
Educational Growth: Opportunities to attend QI meetings, shadow clinicians, and engage in 1:1 mentorship with the QI team.
-
Commitment: A minimum of 100 hours per year, plus initial onboarding. Some outreach responsibilities can be done remotely, but in person availability is a plus.

FAQ
Are there any "Clearance Requirements"?
Will I have a set schedule?
We understand that our interns are in different phases in their lives. Each of the roles may require different time commitments, not exceeding 2-4 hours per week. Some in-person positions will require a concrete schedule to match clinic needs, whereas, supplemental remote positions maybe more flexible. Once you have completed onboarding, you will coordinate your schedule with the team.
Can I complete clinical hours through this program?
Yes, to be on-site:
An Occupational Health Services (OHS) Medical Clearance is required. You will receive a packet of materials to fill out after the application is processed.
We are not an accredited volunteer program for clinical/certification purposes. Please check in with your school's appropriate department to ensure that you can get credit for the volunteers hours you commit to RFPC.
Is this a paid position?
Unfortunately, we are not able to provide a stipend to our volunteers; however, we truly hope that your participation in our program will help you: engage in a clinical setting, develop life-long relationships with staff, providers and other volunteers that will support your academic and professional goals and give you the confidence to continue your pursuit in the healthcare field. Interns in past years have benefited from shadowing providers and asking for a letter of recommendation.
